Pitman Family Farms
Mary’s Free-Range Chickens and Turkeys are produced by Pitman Farms, a family-owned business that has been raising poultry in the open spaces of the San Joaquin Valley in sunny California for three generations. Don Pitman began raising free-range turkeys and chickens there in 1954. His son Rick went on to raise poultry and named the company after his wife, Mary. Now, their son David continues the family tradition.
Mary’s Free Range poultry can be found in our hearty Stage 3 blends like Sprout’s Garden Vegetables Brown Rice with Turkey, Harvest Vegetables Apricot with Chicken, Market Vegetables Pear with Turkey, and Creamy Vegetables with Chicken.
Organic Prairie is a co-op of family farms that have been producing meats without the use of antibiotics, synthetic hormones, GMOs, or pesticides since 1996. As pioneers of the organic meat industry, they are connected by their dedication to organic practices, such as raising animals on pasture, and the values that come from running a small family business for generations.
Organic farming and the cooperative business model have allowed these smaller family farms to prosper in a time when farming as a whole is on the decline, which is why it is rewarding to see stories of third, fourth and even fifth generation Organic Prairie farmers!
