There are several vitamins and nutrients that are especially important in supporting children's growth and development. These nutrients can all be found in natural sources, such as fruits, vegetables, grains and meats. Calcium

Benefits: The body needs calcium to maintain strong bones, teeth and muscles.

Food Sources: Milk, yogurt, cheese, kale, broccoli, Chinese cabbage, sardines, salmon, and most grains.

Vitamin D

Benefits: Vitamin D helps the body to absorb calcium, ward off bacteria and viruses and to support muscles and nerves.

Food Sources: There are only a select number of foods that naturally contain vitamin D. Fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel are among the best sources. Fortified foods like milk and breakfast cereals also provide vitamin D. A great non-nutritive source is sunlight.

Sprout recipes do not currently offer a significant amount of these ingredients.
